What is hydrolyzed collagen?

2016-08-28

Hydrolyzed collagen : Hydrolyzed collagen is a form of collagen and is also referred to as collagen hydrolysate, gelatine hydrolysate, hydrolyzed gelatine, and collagen peptides. Hydrolyzed collagen is with gelatin as raw material and purifying, and collagen triple helix structure has been completely loosened, become three free peptide chains and degraded into many scattered peptides. Hydrolysis results in the reduction of collagen protein fibrils of about 300,000 Da into smaller peptides. Depending upon the process of hydrolysis, peptides will have broad molecular weight ranges associated with physical and chemical methods of denaturation.
The amino acid content of hydrolyzed collagen is the same as collagen. Hydrolyzed collagen contains 20 amino acids, predominantly glycine, proline and hydroxyproli-ne , which together represent around 50% of the total amino acid content.  Among them, it contains 8 out of 9 essential amino-acids,[1] including glycine and arginine[2]—two amino-acid precursors necessary for the biosynthesis ofcreatine. It contains no tryptophan and is deficient in isoleucine, threonine, and methionine.
